Presidents' Welcome
It's never too late to join the PTA! Many thanks to the 325+ family members who have already joined the CCES PTA. That's a fantastic total, but we would really love to see every family represented.
Our students and staff count on your membership and tax-deductible contributions to fund after-school clubs, summer academic programming, the student handbook and directory, the monthly parent newsletter (CCES Press), homework club, Family Fun Day, Fall Fair, ESL classes for parents of our students, the PTA web site, cultural arts programming and residencies, activity buses, instructional supplies and materials, staff appreciation events, and many other important items. We hope you'll not only join the PTA but also consider making a generous donation.

What have we been up to this year?
Web site: We've got a new state-of-the-art web site, full of useful links, forms and FAQ's. Need to see the latest Newsletter? Miss the latest edition of Backpack mail? Lose the PTA form that you meant to turn in? Always wondered how the math leveling works? All the answers are now a click away!! Check it out!
New Student Welcome: We've amped up the new student welcome considerably, with a beginning of the year picnic and increased volunteer opportunities. We are also organizing a new student mentor program.
Front Office Volunteer Opportunities: Back in November we recognized that the front office could probably use some help at the start of school and during lunch hours. So, we instituted a regular volunteer program, and couldn't be happier with the results. Parents love it. Ms. Pagliano, Mrs. Krehbiel and Mrs. Smith love it. It's a fabulous way to get to know the school and meet tons of people.
Parent/Teacher Survey: About 1/3 of the parents responded to the survey. Results can be found on our very own web site at Parent/Teacher Survey 2007-08
Diversity Committee: We've got a fabulous crew of parents and teachers on board, looking into a variety of issues, from parent involvement, to teaching tolerance, to bullying. Has your child told you about “mix it up day”? Have you walked the hallways and seen the inspirational posters? Did you have a chance to attend the recent PTA sponsored (CCES and the BCC cluster) presentation on bullying?
School Supplies: You asked for it, we delivered. It is now possible to pre-order next years school supplies and have them delivered to your desk at the start of the new year. No more fighting lines or traipsing to 3 different stores to complete your list.
Room Parent Reorganization: We continue to revamp the room parent system, with earlier sign-up, coordination of duties, and introducing a liaison role.
Grade Level Reps: We are in the process of adding 1-2 parent grade level representatives for each grade (including METs). This allows us to keep on top of the interests of each grade, include a greater range of parents in the PTA, and generally, better serve the entire population at CCES.
Playground Committee: We have an energetic committee heading up our research into what we can do to make better use of our limited outdoor space, for the kids AND the community. We can't wait to share our results.
